Officer Shay Mikalonis Fund

My name is Michael Hawk and I am a retired officer with Las Vegas Metro Police Department. I am a friend of Shay’s step father Pat. I am setting up this fundraiser to help Officer Shay Mikalonis and his family with medical bills and any other expenses that Shay and his family may need in dealing with this tragedy.  Officer Shay Mikalonis was shot in the head on Monday, June 1, 2020 while breaking up rioters  in front of Circus Circus in Las Vegas. He is currently in the ICU at UMC hospital fighting for his life.  Anything you can give would be greatly appreciated. The funds from this campaign will be transferred to the IPOF (Injured Police Officers Fund) that has been set up at two local Las Vegas banks. Wells Fargo and Nevada State Bank. The IPOF will then distribute those funds to the family directly. The IPOF has assured us that Shay will receive 100 percent of all monies donated.

Update on Shay from the family as of 06/12/20

Yesterday was a great day for our family and Shay! We were amazed at the outpouring of support for the IPOF Pray For Shay Day fundraiser that was held yesterday. Words cannot begin to express how grateful we feel. We, as a family, want to say thank you Las Vegas for your continuing support of Shay.  Shay is on a ventilator and will remain so. He is also paralyzed from the neck down and unable to speak. Shay is awake and seems to recognize his family members. We can’t thank the staff of caring professionals at UMC for getting him this far, truly a miracle!

Because of the life-saving work and care he received, Shay has tentatively been accepted to one of the best spine rehabilitation centers in the country. There are many factors that come into play here and I will release the name of the center when the time is right. We are anticipating that Shay will be moving on in his long journey ahead.

As many of you know, Shay is a big time Las Vegas Golden Knights fan. The Knights presented Shay with a beautiful jersey, signed by the team. That jersey will go with Shay to the rehabilitation center, so he will always have a slice of home with him. Thank you Golden Knights!

Again, our family can never express our gratitude for all the support for Shay. We are always Las Vegas Strong and so proud of our community! Please keep Shay in your thoughts and prayers. Shay is still fighting the good fight! Pray for Shay!!
